On February 20, 1996, the ÀÇÓѸó Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Mr. Steven Cantu to their board of trustees. At the time, the trustees were Board President Mark McKean, Jeff Crivelli, Bill Henry, Jeff Levinson, Edna Ivans, and Keith Scrivner, with Dr. Frank Gornick serving as chancellor.
At that meeting, Steve shared his deep connection to the institution. He proudly reminded the community that he was a West Hills Community College alumnus, expressing deep gratitude for the educational opportunity he received. Mr. Cantu discussed his academic journey, explaining that he later transferred to Fresno State University, where he earned his degree and began his career as a teacher at Tranquility High School. Shortly after his teaching experience, he transitioned into farming, a profession he continues to pursue.
Steve has been a committed district supporter throughout his 28-year tenure on the board of trustees, contributing significantly to its growth and development. He played a crucial role in several accreditation visits and helped our district realize the vision to create ÀÇÓѸó in 2006. Steve has also passionately advocated for the Firebaugh campus, which recently unveiled a brand-new building to serve the local community better.
On behalf of the ÀÇÓѸó family, we would like to thank Steve Cantu for his decades of dedicated service. Our community has been incredibly fortunate to have such a committed and visionary leader helping guide our district's growth and ensuring its continued success. Steve's contributions have shaped the institution and positively impacted countless students and community members over the years. Steve, we thank you for your decades of service and wish you the best of luck in your future business endeavors.
