Several scholarships offer book stipends as part of the award. Here is your guide to using your book stipend: what you can purchase with the stipend and what you can't.
Philosophy:
The student book stipend was granted to scholarship recipients to cover book and class supply expenses. These funds should be used to purchase textbooks, office supplies and class supplies. Other electronic equipment may be purchased if on the approved list. These funds should not be thought of as discretionary funds.
Purpose:
The purpose of this document is to ensure that Foundation funds are spent to match donor intent. It will act as a guide for students to purchase books and supplies using donor funds. If a student receives a book stipend they should spend those funds on supplies outline below.
Items approved for purchase:
- Textbooks
- Paper, pens and office supplies
- Laptops or tablets
- Calculators
- Printers
- Class supplies
Items not approved for purchase:
- Headphones
- Speakers
- Phones
- Food
- Apparel
Items outside of this list require written justification submitted to the Executive Director of the West Hills College Foundation. Requests will be reviewed and approved individually.
